Mental Health Needs a Design Lens
The experience is designed with the conviction that every mind matters, and all individuals deserve access to tools that can help them cultivate human thriving and optimal functioning. It brings concepts that are often learned in therapy into the hands of the everyday person, increasing access to foundational skills that are not taught in school or at home.
Infused with Positive Psychology
Everymind reimagines how society views mental health, taking a proactive rather than reactive approach. By learning coping strategies, thought restructuring, communication skill-building, emotional granularity, and strength-building, visitors walk away with the skills to apply what they learned to their daily lives.
Significant Trends
To better focus my design direction, I worked at the intersection of two emerging trends: interactive experiences and mental health awareness/literacy.

What's out There Now?
Much of the current mental health market is oversaturated with passive educational tools concentrated on a limited skillset (e.g., mood tracking, mindfulness, breathing). The greatest opportunity lies in the interactive, proactive space. This is where Everymind exists.

Listening to Users
Mental health is a critical part of our lives. I conducted a survey to get a comprehensive picture of how people view it, think about it, and apply practices to their daily life.
Survey of 225 respondents; includes Baby Boomers through Gen Z generations

A Look Inside
Twelve spaces, each with their own learning goals, highlight concepts fundamental to achieving optimal well-being—and along the way, growth, connection, and self-awareness.
Featured below are some of the interactive spaces most critical to the purpose of the experience.
1
Sonder

Sonder is the idea that every random passerby is living a life just as complex and vivid as your own. This space embodies that concept.

Through an anonymous thought-sharing activity, visitors can read the thoughts and feelings of others that are digitally projected on all four walls of the space, helping us feel less alone and serving as a warm-up for the rest of the experience.

2
The art of healing

Various forms of mental health-related art—from poetry and photography to paintings and music—fill the space, activating multiple senses at once. Displayed art rotates regularly.

3
Non-toxic positivity

This space includes thought restructuring exercises for visitors to learn about cognitive distortions, how to reframe thoughts as more positive, how to identify unhelpful thoughts, and how to develop an optimistic mindset.

Positive reappraisal exercises are designed to help in coping with stress + anxiety and fostering resilience.
4
Self-reflection

On a collection of mirrors (self-reflection, of course), write your answers (and read others’) to prompts that encourage self-worth, self-awareness, and reflection. Recognize your positive qualities and personal strengths.
Takeaways
Everymind is my life’s mission. This was my biggest idea yet, and bringing this concept to life showed me my dreams are achievable. Because of its scale, I also learned that designing for everyone is designing for no one; start with a subset of people, and the greater population will follow. This process showed me that a world where everyone has the tools to achieve optimal well-being and deepen their connections is closer than ever. I can’t wait to live in it.
